Every year we commemorate the destruction of the holy Temple with fast days
and mourning. But why the whole affair of 3 weeks and 9 days? It seems to
me, this is to drill home that we aren't just mourning the huge loss, that
once we had a certain power and beauty and it was taken. The Holy Temple is
much more than that, the Holy Temple was an integral part of our life
existence and the environment, setting, and system in which live. It wasn't
just like a fancy palace to visit and show off. The Shechina dwelled there,
and we directly basked in the Divine in all aspects of our life.
