The Life of Our Leader Rabbi Nachman ·
(52.) In Likutay Tinyana, Torah 4 — regarding what is explained there about the cure for the wound — which on the surface has no explanation for those words and what their relevance is in that teaching. Said the transcriber: I heard from our people that before this Shavuos on which the aforementioned teaching was said — an important person of our people in Ladizhin took ill — meaning he had a very severe wound, G-d save us, and was very ill. And the doctors had given up on him — saying he could not survive. For even if the wound were to open and burst — one would still need... The copyist said: I heard from our fellow men that before the Shavuos in which the aforementioned discourse was said, an important man of our fellow men in Ladizhin took ill — that is, he had a great wound at the rectum, Merciful One save us, and he was very ill. And the doctors drew back their hands from him, for they said he could not survive. For even if the wound were to open and burst, one would then have to cleanse it and draw out all the bad moisture from within it, and likewise all the other efforts needed for healing the wound — and this was impossible because it was inside the innards, and he would certainly die. And the men of Ladizhin came for Shavuos and told Rabbainu za.tza.l about all the aforementioned. Afterward, on Shavuos, Rabbainu o.b.m. said the aforementioned discourse, and there he speaks at length about the matter of healing wounds. And when they came home, it became known to them that at the moment Rabbainu za.tza.l said this discourse, the wound burst and he was immediately relieved [so to speak] of his pain, and after some days the healing of the wound was completed in perfection. And the general rule, which has been seen with one's own eyes times without number, is that all the matters that transpired in the world — especially the matters that befell our fellow men — were all encompassed within the words of his holy Torah. And through his holy Torah he drew healings and rectifications and sweetenings for all the matters in the world, in general and in particular, in the spiritual and in the physical:
