(ג) ואמר שיכולין להכיר בהפנים של האדם אם למד (מורה נבוכים) כלומר שהפנים של זה הלומד זה הספר נשתנה להרע. כי בודאי הוא אובד צלם אלקים פנים דקדשה על ידי זה. וכמו שרואין בחוש שרבם ככלם שעסקו באלו הספרים בדורות הללו, נעשו אפיקורסים גמורים, והם חשודים על כל עברות שבתורה. כי זה הספר וכן שאר ספרי המחקרים עוקרים את האדם לגמרי מאמונת ישראל, ומתורתנו הקדושה ומהשם יתברך, ואחריתו עדי אובד. גם אני דברתי עם כמה אנשים שהם כשרים קצת שלמדו מכבר ספרי המחקרים, וכלם אמרו בפה מלא שהם מתחרטים מאד על זה שלמדו, והלואי שלא היו יודעים מהם. והעידו בעצמן שראוי להתרחק מהם מאד מאד בתכלית הרחוק. אשרי מי שבורח מהם ומחזק את עצמו באמונה שלמה לבד כפי מה שקבלנו מאבותינו כמו שכלל ישראל מאמינים בלי שום חקירות של שטות והבל שלהם:

For he certainly loses the divine image — the holy countenance — through this. As one sees in physical experience that the vast majority of those who engaged in these books in these generations became complete heretics — and they are suspect regarding all transgressions in the Torah. For this book and similarly the other books of the philosophers uproot... And I too spoke with several people who are somewhat kosher, who had already studied books of the investigations, and they all said with full mouth that they deeply regret having studied them — "would that I had never known of them!" And they themselves testified that it is fitting to keep very, very far from them, in the uttermost distance. Fortunate is he who flees from them and strengthens himself with complete faith alone, according to what we received from our fathers, as all of Israel believes — without any of their foolish investigations and vanities:
