(56.) Once he told about the matter of trust [bitochon] and said there are tzaddikim who do not keep money from one day to the next — as is told of several great tzaddikim of previous generations, such as the Baal Shem Tov of blessed memory, and the holy tzaddik our teacher the Rabbi Elimelech of blessed memory, and similar ones — that each and every day they scattered all the money they had and kept no money whatsoever from one day to the next. And he said one must be a great person for this — to be strong in trust and stand firm. For if one falters... And he proved and clarified before our eyes that the fathers held money with them. For Avraham, Yitzchok, and Yaakov were all exceedingly wealthy. And Yaakov Avinu, when he came to Shechem, bought a portion of field for a hundred kesita — and where did he have so much money? And likewise Avraham when he bought the Cave of Machpelah. And likewise it is explained further from the verses and Midrashim that money was deposited with them. And he said that this service is higher and heavier among the great true tzaddikim who excel in the very highest level:
