He told me about a tzaddik from Lithuania [the author of Yesod V'Shoresh Ha'Avodah] who before his death snapped his finger and thumb together in the manner the world snaps fingers against one another — a thumb against a forefinger until a sound is heard between them — and said in joy in these words: [in Yiddish: "iber gishpringen"] — "I have leaped!" Meaning he was with great joy that he had jumped and leaped over this world and its vanities — praiseworthy is he. And Rabbainu z"l greatly praised his... And he o.b.m. greatly praised this tzaddik, that he merited to say so before his death. Fortunate is he who skips and leaps over the vanities of this world and its pleasures. And he also told in the name of this tzaddik a beautiful utterance that he would say (Tehillim 145): "The praise of Hashem will my mouth speak" — that is, when even my mouth merits to speak the praises of Hashem, then certainly "all flesh shall bless His holy Name forever and ever." That is, for this tzaddik was humble and very lowly in his own eyes; therefore he said: since one as lowly as I merits to speak the praises of Hashem, therefore certainly all flesh shall bless His holy Name, etc. — that is, certainly there is permission for all flesh, for every creature in the world, to bless His holy Name, for certainly they are not worse than I. And this is "The praise of Hashem will my mouth speak" — therefore certainly all flesh shall bless His holy Name forever and ever, as mentioned:
