(142.) I heard that once they told before him about the journey of the holy Rabbi of Berdichev z"l to Iasi — and how he had gathered much money there. Rabbainu z"l said: "A good melody is better than this — and particularly a melody of the Land of Israel is certainly better than this." If they were to take a person consumed with money-desire — about whom our Rabbis of blessed memory expounded [Brachos 54a]: "And with all your meod — there is a person for whom his money is dearer to him than his body" — even so, if one showed him a melody that... ...if one showed him a melody of the Land of Israel, all his desire for money would be nullified before him. (Said the transcriber: see in Likutay Tinyana, Torah 48 — "Whoever knows of the Land of Israel" etc. At the end of the discourse it is explained there that the abundance of the Land of Israel is the aspect of a twofold abundance — through which the desire for money is repaired. And likewise he explains in Likutay Halachos, Laws of the Blessing after Meals, Law 4, marking 16 — see there. And see Likutay Tinyana, Torah 63, on the matter of "Take from the song of the Land" — meaning a melody of the Land of Israel etc. — see there. And one may say that this is why He later said "and money as a second" — "take into your hands" — the aforementioned aspect of twofold abundance.)
