תּוֹרָה קמד

The Tzadik who breaks the food desire — until even on days when eating and drinking are permitted — as our Sages of blessed memory said: ""on a festival — half for Hashem and half for yourselves"" [Pesachim 68b] — he also holds his desire in his hand — for such a Tzadik there is no distinction between death and life.

For he always serves Hashem. [Behold the primary import of this saying is also explained regarding the desire for money — for through breaking the desire for money one is in the aspect of: ""the light of the king's face is life"" [Proverbs 16:15].

And it is satisfying according to the saying of our Sages of blessed memory [Shabbos 119a]: ""one who delights in the Shabbos is granted the requests of his heart"" — and how is this possible — for is it not so: ""a person does not die"" etc. as above. But according to our Rebbe, of blessed memory, it is satisfying — for this is not an absolute and Shabbos is also the aspect of life.]
