(10.) Once we spoke with him and he revealed to us that there is a proof for the creation of the world. For if not so, G-d forbid — where would there be room to contain all those who come into the world? For this one sees in physical experience: people keep increasing in number. For from one person generations upon generations of thousands and myriads of souls emerge. And so from each and every one. And if so — meaning: if the world were ancient and without limit and time, G-d forbid, as the position of the heretics, may their names be blotted out — it would already have been fitting that the world be... so much. And once again he revealed a second proof from the dead. For when a person dies and is buried in the earth, the earth is increased at least somewhat. And even after he decays and becomes a heap of rot, at least a little is added to the earth and the dust. And if so (he meant, likewise as mentioned), it would already have been fitting that the earth grow great up to the firmament and more and more, according to the foolish and confusing view of the heretics. If so, how was there room in the world to hold what is added at every time without measure and number according to their view — for at least something is added, and the dead are without measure and number according to their foolish view (since in their view there is no time of the world's creation). If so, there is no place that could hold them. And understand. For these are clear proofs for one who wants to acknowledge the truth and does not insist on denying and provoking, G-d forbid. The first from the living, and the second from the dead. But in truth, we do not need to enter at all into investigations and proofs — only we believe in Hashem Yisburach, Who created the world in the six days of Bereishis, with complete faith without any investigations at all — as it is written: "In the beginning G-d created the heavens and the earth." And I did not record this only because it came forth from the mouth of Rabbainu the holy o.b.m., for it is not fitting that a single utterance of his holy utterances be lost; therefore I could not restrain myself and recorded it — in order to open the eyes of the heretics, to show them their folly and error. For if they truly set their eye upon these two proofs, they will see and understand that they cannot be refuted — perhaps they will see and return to the truth. But we do not need this, any proof in the world — not even the aforementioned proofs — for we are believers, sons of believers, seed of Avraham, Yitzchok, and Yaakov, and we believe in Hashem Yisburach and in His holy Torah without any investigations, only with complete faith alone. And this is the foundation of all the Torah, as our Sages of blessed memory said (Makkos 24a): "Chavakuk came and established them upon one: 'And the tzaddik shall live by his faith'":
